UK Vape Tax 2026: What Vapers Need To Know

The UK vape market is changing.

From 1st October 2026, the UK Government will introduce Vaping Products Duty, also known as VPD.

This is a new tax on vaping liquid made in or imported into the UK. It will affect everyday vape products sold across the UK. For vapers, the main change is simple:

Vape liquid will unfortunately cost more.

What is Vaping Products Duty?

Vaping Products Duty is a flat rate tax on vaping liquid.

The confirmed rate is:

  • £0.22 per ml
  • £2.20 per 10ml
  • £22.00 per 100ml
  • £220.00 per litre

VAT will still be added separately.

This means the final price paid by customers will rise beyond the duty amount alone.

What Vape products will be affected?

VPD applies to all Bar Series e-liquids and any vaping liquid.

This includes:

  • 10ml e-liquids
  • Nicotine salts
  • Shortfills
  • Longfills
  • Bottle shots
  • Prefilled pods
  • Base Mix

The tax is based on liquid volume. The more liquid in the product, the higher the duty charge.

What products are not charged?

VPD does not apply to empty vape hardware. This is means you can still purchase hardware from barserieseliquid.co.uk without the extra cost.

Products not charged include:

  • Vape kits sold without liquid
  • Standalone vape devices
  • Replacement coils
  • Empty tanks
  • Empty pods
  • Batteries
  • Chargers
  • General vape accessories

The difference is clear. If the product contains vaping liquid, VPD applies. If it is empty hardware, it does not.

What are Vape Duty Stamps?

From 1st October 2026, duty stamps will be added to vaping products released for sale in the UK.

These stamps show that duty has been paid.

Retailers can continue selling older unstamped stock until 31st March 2027.

From 1st April 2027, vaping products on the UK market must carry a duty stamp where required. After this date, unstamped vape products should be treated with caution. They could be old stock, non compliant stock or products being sold outside the correct process.

For customers, the stamp gives a simple way to spot legitimate UK stock.

How Are Other Countries Taxing Vaping?

The UK is not the first country to tax vaping products.

Many countries already tax vape liquid, including Norway, Canada and several US states. Across Europe, a number of countries have also introduced their own vape taxes.

Most use a flat rate on liquid, whether it contains nicotine or not. Others use different rates based on nicotine content.

The direction is clear. Vape taxes are becoming more common and the UK is now following that trend.

What this means for Vapers

Prices will rise across vaping website who sell liquid vape products.

This includes the products many vapers use every day, such as 10ml Nic Salt e-liquids, Longfills and Shortfills.

The biggest difference customers will notice is at checkout. Products with more liquid will carry more duty.

This does not mean vaping is going away. It means the market is becoming more regulated and more expensive.

Why buying from trusted UK retailers matters

When the new rules are in place, buying your e-liquid products from trusted UK retailers becomes even more important.

Duty stamps will help customers check that products have gone through the correct process.

Suspiciously cheap products should raise questions. If a vape product is much cheaper than expected after the tax comes in, there may be a reason.

Buying from established UK retailers helps protect customers from non compliant stock and poor quality products.

Final Thoughts

The UK vape tax is a major change for the vaping industry.

From 1s October 2026, vaping liquid will be charged under Vaping Products Duty.

Products that contain liquid will be affected. Empty hardware such as devices, coils, tanks, batteries and chargers will not be charged under VPD.

Duty stamps will also become part of the UK vape market. They will help customers identify products that have gone through the correct duty process.

For vapers, the message is simple:

Prices are going up. Buy from trusted UK retailers and know what to look for.
